10 Things You Don't Know About Me

It's my 25th birthday tomorrow, I can't believe it! I know this blog is usually just the facts and I don't talk about myself or my life very much so in honor of my birthday I thought I would do just that. So here's 10 things about me!

1. I'm allergic to everything
I rubbed peanut butter in my eye after crawling over my moms sandwich and only lived because we lived across the road from a hospital. As a teenage I developed a soy allergy, an allergy to all nuts, and oral allergy syndrome. Oral allergy syndrome means when I eat fresh fruit my lips and tongue swell up, but I don't go into anaphylactic shock. I'm also allergic to cat, dogs, horses. I'm also allergic to bees and birch trees and ragweed. So yes I'm allergic to basically earth.

2. I did Irish dancing growing up
You know river dance? Or Micheal Flatly? Yes that was me. I'm technically very Irish (hence the very pale skin) so my mom put me in when I was a little girl. I did it for around 11 years. We would have to wear these scary wigs that made us look like captain hook. So not cute. I also did ballet growing up and only stopped because I was getting to sick to continue.

3. I basically didn't eat a vegetable until diagnosed with celiac disease 4 years ago
I had the worlds worst diet. Seriously. I lived off of twinkies, doughnuts, and mac and cheese. It's still a struggle for me to eat healthy as I was a very picky eater growing up. I'm not one of those people who has always been eating raw veggies and lovin it. That being said I love how I feel eating a healthy diet and would never go back to the way I ate before.

4. I considered going to pastry school to be a cake decorator
Before I was diagnosed with celiac disease I loved baking and decorating cakes. I learned how to make fondant flowers, took classes and had all of the equipment. I knew all the piping techniques and would make cakes for everyone I knew on special occasions.

5. I have a cat named Stormy
I know what you're thinking, you're allergic to cats. I am, all but one. I have a very weird mix of cats that I'm some how not allergic to. My cat Stormy that I call Norma Jean (long story) is part Russian blue and part Persian.

6. I grew up in a tiny northern town in Canada
Right now I live in Victoria BC, a town on an island on the west coast of Canada, but before that I lived in a tiny town called Fort St. John. For a long time I lived way outside of town in a little wood cabin where I had horses and an ice rink in my back yard. There was snow 10 months of the year and I would regularly see foxes, bears and wolves.

7. I went to school to be an Audiologist (I've been in university for 8 years yikes!)
Long before I went to school to be a holistic nutritionist I started the long journey towards becoming an audiologist. What's an Audiologist? It's like an ear doctor. I'm about to do my licensing exam in 3 weeks. But of course my real passion is nutrition it always has been. I've always loved science and nutrition. When I was little I read science and fact books instead of stories. I remember seeing a holistic nutritionist on a Canadian TV show right when my interest in nutrition was peaking after my celiac diagnosis and signed up to school shortly after.

8. I have an Etsy Shop
Another random thing about me is the fact that I love making homemade beauty products. I always have! I remember mixing up homemade masks and products when I was little and about 2 years ago decided to start a Etsy shop called Westing Wellness. I sell bath bombs, soaps, face masks and body butters. All are 100% natural and not made with any harmful ingredients. I truly believe that what we put on our skin is so important for our health.

9. My first blog was a natural beauty blog
A few years ago I had a blog where I focused on homemade beauty products, crafts, decorating, flower arrangements and healthy recipes. It was a random mishmash of all of my girl hobbies put into a blog.

10. My favourite movies are either romantic or documentaries
I have a weird movies list, I love You've Got Mail, The Notebook, The Holiday and Love Actually, but I also love political and health documentaries! My netflix is 50/50.
